Cleopatra was the name of several women in ancient Egypt. The most famous one was Cleopatra VII, born in 69 BC in Alexandria. She was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty. She originally ruled jointly with her father, Ptolemy XII Auletes and later with her brothers, Ptolemy XIII and Ptolemy XIV. Eventually she became sole ruler and to this day, she remains a source of perpetual fascination in Western culture.
